Today was a first. I shared the Immanuel Quilt outside the state of Indiana! When I accepted the invitation to share its story in Marshall, IL for the First United Methodist Church Celebrate Women dinner, I knew exactly who I wanted to accompany me on this trip - my friend Jan. (Remember, I never travel alone.) She was born and raised in Marshall and could possibly get me there blindfolded.
I had plenty of time to work on my hair because we arrived way too early. THIRD NOTE TO SELF: Check for time zone changes! We took advantage of the extra time we had by Jan showing me around town and places special to her; the childhood homes of both her and her husband, their old high school, and the park where they met. Where do you think they got married? Yep, right there at the First United Methodist Church of Marshall, IL!
The church was absolutely beautiful. I was told many couples choose to get married there and it was easy to understand why. The backdrop would make for lovely wedding photos.
Many of the women present knew Jan, and were pleasantly surprised to see her and of course, wanted to know our connection. It was at church we met and became friends. I enjoyed getting to meet Jan's friends as well as being introduced to several ladies who had came to hear the quilt presentation.
When I share the story of the quilt, I sense the full concentration of women trying to absorb all the information I tell about the quilt. But, I have to leave speaking to their heart to God. Tonight, He spoke to a woman who realized she must seek God to guide her steps out of loneliness and into purpose. I am always blessed when I hear how Gods uses this beautiful quilt to speak to others.
So how would I sum up this day? Like this:
Beautiful sunshine for a Beautiful drive with a Beautiful friend to a Beautiful church with Beautiful people where we celebrated Beautiful women honoring a BEAUTIFUL LORD. Now that is a Beautiful Day!
