Have you ever found out that someone was praying on your behalf?
I have a friend I call a Prayer Warrior. She has prayed for me on many occasions, often without me even knowing it. Several blessings I have received are direct results of her answered prayers.
Traveling to Fort Wayne, Indiana on a mid-December day turned out to be one of those unexpected blessings I will never, ever forget.
Women planning the monthly luncheon thought the Immanuel Quilt, with the reference of “Immanuel-God with Us”, would be the perfect topic for their Christmas meeting. At first, I declined their invitation to speak for them. After all, the weather could be bad in December. (Remember, I do not like traveling…especially in bad weather!)
Whatsoever you shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it to you." John 16:23 ESV
No. It was not me who asked for this. I believe there were Prayer Warriors in the Women’s Connection who were praying for a speaker. Even though I had turned them down, they still needed a speaker. It was my husband, Tom, who changed my mind and got me to call them back and accept their invitation.
Jesus is our Intercessor. He presents our prayers to the Father. Prayer Warriors know that God the Father hears their prayers through Jesus.
By no accident, it turned out Tom was my traveling companion for the day. He had never been to one of the Immanuel Quilt presentations. I wanted Tom to do more than get me there. I wanted him present. I am not always a Prayer Warrior, but oh, how I prayed for this.
I prayed he would stay for the luncheon and not be tempted to pass the time away at the local McDonalds. I prayed for God to let him experience a blessing by giving him an opportunity to pray with someone attending the luncheon.
God answered that prayer. Tom did spend the day with us and afterwards was given an opportunity to pray with a woman for her unsaved husband.
“Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25 ESV
As Prayer Warriors we are intercessors too.
There is final trumpet call that will mark the end of the age and the return of Christ. It is mentioned in the Book of Revelation. Once that final trumpet is sounded those who are ready, will go with Him into the clouds, into eternity.
I was touched how one woman recalled this portion of scripture when I referred to the border of the quilt looking like mega horns proclaiming Jesus' names. Now is when we should be proclaiming Jesus Christ to everyone while there is still time. When Christ returns, we will all know it. Everyone will recognize Him on that day. But, it takes more than recognizing Christ to enter Glory Land with Him.
Perhaps it is time to step up and become intercessors.
Jesus tells a story in the Bible of ten virgin bridesmaids waiting for the Bridegroom, a reference to Jesus Christ. (Matthew 25:1-13)
“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
“Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
“But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”
There will be a day the door will be shut. The only way to God will be forever closed. When the Bridegroom comes we must be ready. Imagine the oil for the lamp as the Holy Spirit that dwells in the hearts of believers. We are changed bodies only by the Spirit of God.
Is there someone you fear may be left behind?
The blessing I will never, ever forget from that day was the prayer Tom gave for the woman's unsaved husband. It turned out to be a prayer with double-purpose. It included a message from the ultimate Intercessor.
Tom had no idea that as he was praying for one 79 year old husband named Glenn, to come to know the Lord, God was preparing to call another 79 year old man, my Father, Glenn "Jay" Pell…home to be with Him in only a few short hours.
It could have been the very moments in which Dad developed the threatening headache that would lead to his stroke -Tom was praying.
In those moments Dad must have needed an intercessor and God chose Tom. I believe it was for the purpose to let Dad know he was not alone, and in hindsight, to let us see it was His Divine plan. God is over all things. Yes, indeed. But, isn’t it wonderful when He shows us amazing reassurances?
Quickly and unexpectedly is how Jesus will return. It may be an earthly death that will come knocking on your door before that final trumpet sound is sounded. Dad’s death was certainly quick and unexpected for us. Regardless of the day or the hour when Jesus comes for you… are you ready?
I hope to learn someday there was even more to this story. Wouldn't it be awesome to learn God used it to save many unsaved souls? God is able.
Are you willing to be an intercessor Prayer Warrior through the Perfect Intercessor, Jesus Christ, on behalf of someone you know?
